Lansio Arddangosfa Pwytho Straeon – Stitching Stories Exhibition Launch

Mae Celfyddydau Span wedi bod yn cyflwyno Pwytho Straeon, elfen gyffrous o’r Prosiect Ein Cymdogaeth Werin ers mis Medi 2018, ac mae’r gwaith terfynol bellach yn dod at ei gilydd.

Span Arts have been delivering our exciting Stitching Stories element of the Preseli Heartlands Project since September 2018, and at long last a vision of the final work is coming together.

Mae’r gweithdai pwytho a gynhaliwyd ym Maenclochog wedi denu amrywiaeth wych o bobl o bob cenhedlaeth. O drigolion hirsefydlog a chymeriadau lleol gyda straeon mawr i’w hadrodd a hen luniau angof i’w rhannu; i newydd-ddyfodiaid sy’n cwympo mewn cariad â’r dirwedd hardd a dysgu mwy am ei threftadaeth gyfoethog. Mae plant lleol hefyd wedi cymryd rhan, gan gynnwys disgyblion Ysgol Gynradd Maenclochog sydd wedi bod yn dod i’r sesiynau ar brynhawniau Gwener pan fydd yr ysgol yn cau’n gynnar. Yn ystod hanner tymor mis Hydref, roedd yna sesiwn arbennig hefyd ar “Bwytho dy Stori” yn cynnig cyfle i blant ac oedolion greu darn o waith celf yn archwilio eu cysylltiad â’r ardal.

The “Stitch Labs” workshops held in Maenclochog have engaged a fantastic cross generational mix of Preseli people. From long standing residents and local characters with tall tales to tell and old forgotten photographs to share; to newcomers of the area which are falling in love with the beautiful landscape and learning more about its rich heritage. Local children have also been involved, including pupils of Maenclochog Primary School who have been attending on Friday afternoons when the school closes early. During the October half term there was also a special “Stitch Your Story” all day session in which children and adults had an opportunity to create a special stand-alone piece of artwork exploring their connection to the area.

Y briff oedd creu “cwilt” neu dapestri digidol rhyngweithiol gyda chymunedau’r Preseli – gan gyfuno elfennau tecstilau a’r casgliad o straeon a dyfyniadau lleol a gofnodwyd. Yn ystod y gweithdai, cafodd y rhai a oedd yn bresennol y cyfle i arbrofi gyda gwahanol decstilau a thechnegau i greu eu cyfraniad nhw wedi’i ysbrydoli gan y Preseli. Cafodd ffotograffau a mapiau eu sganio a’u hargraffu ar ddefnyddiau, gydag addurniadau’n cael eu hychwanegu yn ddiweddarach. Casglwyd elfennau botanegol o blanhigion brodorol i’r ardal gyfagos a’u defnyddio i archwilio ffurf a gwead.

The brief was to create an interactive digital “quilt” or tapestry with the Preseli communities – combining textile elements and the collection of recorded local stories and quotes. During the workshops, attendees had the chance to experiment with different textiles and techniques to create their Preseli inspired contribution. Photographs and maps were scanned and printed onto fabrics, with embellishments added later. Botanical elements of plants native to the surrounding area were collected and used to explore form and texture.

Mae’r gweithdai wedi amlygu’r cysylltiad dwfn a bythol sydd gan unigolion a chymunedau ag ardal y Preseli – o’r dirwedd ysblennydd, i arferion ffermio, i feini hirion, nodweddion cynhanesyddol a’i phobl.   Mae yna lawer o haenau o ddiwylliant a threftadaeth gyfoethog, unigryw ac amrywiol yn yr ardal. Wrth symud ymlaen â’r Prosiect Ein Cymdogaeth Werin, mae’n sicr wedi helpu cymunedau i ddechrau meddwl am eu treftadaeth arbennig, a ffyrdd i’w dehongli a’i chadw ar gyfer cenedlaethau’r dyfodol.

The workshops have highlighted the deep and everlasting connection that individuals and communities have with the Preseli area – from the breathtaking landscape, to farming practices, to standing stones and prehistoric features and to the people held within; there are many layers of rich, unique and diverse culture and heritage within the heartlands area. Going forward with the Preseli Heartlands Project it has certainly helped light the way for communities to begin thinking more about their special heritage, and ways in which to interpret and preserve it for future generations.

Cynhelir lansiad arddangosfa’r cwilt ar 31 Ionawr rhwng 7 a 9pm yn Neuadd Gymunedol Maenclochog, gyda’r arddangosfa ar gael i’w gweld rhwng 1 a 7 Chwefror rhwng 10am a 4pm. Rydym yn estyn croeso cynnes i bawb ac yn edrych ymlaen at rannu’r gwaith celf a’r straeon a gasglwyd.

The exhibition launch of the quilt will be held on the 31 January from 7-9pm in Maenclochog Community Hall, with the exhibition available to view thereafter from the 1 – 7 February from 10-4pm. We extend a warm welcome to all and look forward to unveiling the artwork and listening to the collected stories.

Diolch i dîm Celfyddydau Span a phawb sydd wedi cymryd rhan yn y gweithdai pwytho am eu gwaith caled a’u cyfraniadau i’r prosiect Pwytho Straeon.

Thanks to the Span Arts team and Stitch Labs participants for their hard work and contributions to the Stitching Stories project.

Llwybrau at Wreiddiau Brynberian – Routes to Roots Brynberian

Cafwyd noson wych yng nghwmni rhai o drigolion Brynberian wythnos diwethaf, pan ddaethant at ei gilydd i drafod eu treftadaeth unigryw ac arbennig fel rhan o Brosiect Ein Cymdogaeth Werin.

Mae gweithdai Llwybrau at Wreiddiau yn galluogi cymunedau i archwilio ac adnabod eu treftadaeth a’u hasedau diwylliannol a straeon lleol, wrth symud ymlaen i ystyried dehongli a chyfleoedd twristiaeth.

Mae hwn yn amseru gwych i ardal Brynberian wrth iddynt edrych ymlaen at ailddatblygiad cyffrous eu Canolfan Gymunedol a chreu man dehongli treftadaeth ynddi.

Mae Brynberian yn ardal sydd â chyfoeth o draddodiadau ffermio’r myny’ sy’n mynd yn ôl sawl cenhedlaeth, cymeriadau lleol bythgofiadwy ac mae’n fan amlwg ar gyfer archaeoleg gyda Chromlech Pentre Ifan a Chraig Rhosyfelin i grybwyll dim ond rhai yn unig. Mae i’r ardal lawer o asedau naturiol hefyd megis coetir hynafol Tŷ Canol, gyda sawl taith llwybr a nodweddion i’ch cyfareddu, ac mae “gormod o ddewis” yn ateb cyffredin. Y ogystal, trafodwyd lleoliad busnesau, siopau a gwasanaethau sydd wedi hen fynd o’r ardal.

Gobeithiwn y byddwn yn gweithio’n agos gyda Brynberian yn ystod y prosiect i gefnogi eu gweledigaeth o greu ardal dreftadaeth yn eu Canolfan Gymunedol sydd wedi’i hail-ddatblygu.

Cysylltwch â sophiej@planed.org.uk os oeddech yn gobeithio bod yn y digwyddiad hwn, ac os allwch chi gyfrannu at fenter Brynberian. Edrychwn ymlaen at eich cyfraniad.

A great evening was had in the company of some of the residents of Brynberian last week, as they came together to discuss their unique and special heritage as part of the Preseli Heartlands Communities Project.

Routes to Roots workshops enable communities to explore and identify their heritage & cultural assets and local stories, whilst moving forward to consider interpretation and opportunities for tourism.

This is great timing for the Brynberian area as they look forward to the exciting re-development of their Community Centre and the creation of a heritage interpretation space within.

Brynberian is an area rich with hill farming traditions going back generations, unforgettable local characters and is a hot spot for archaeology with the Cromlech of Pentre Ifan and Craig Rhosyfelin to name but a few. It also has many natural assets such as Ty Canol ancient woodland, with numerous breath-taking walks and features “too many to choose from” was a common answer. Discussed also was the location of long gone businesses, shops and services in the area.

We hope to work with Brynberian closely over the duration of the project to support their vision of creating a heritage area in their re-developed Community Centre.

Please get in touch sophiej@planed.org.uk if you hoped to be at this event, and have something to share about Brynberian. We’d love to hear from you.

Preseli Heartlands Project Launch – Lansiad Prosiect Ein Cymdogaeth Werin

A project to help connect Preseli Heartlands communities with the unique heritage of the area has been launched.

Mae prosiect wedi’i lansio i helpu i gysylltu cymunedau Preseli gyda threftadaeth unigryw’r ardal.

The Ein Cymdogaeth Werin – Preseli Heartlands Communities project, led by PLANED will explore how connecting with heritage creatively can contribute to health and wellbeing and provide opportunities for young people through ‘hands-on’ heritage experience. The project was launched on Saturday 13th October at Maenclochog Community Hall.  Community archaeologist Delun Gibby, gave a talk and there were opportunities to view an exhibition of old photos from the region.

Bydd y prosiect Ein Cymdogaeth Werin, sy’n cael ei arwain gan PLANED yn archwilio sut y gall cysylltu â threftadaeth yn greadigol gyfrannu at iechyd a llesiant a darparu cyfleoedd ar gyfer pobl ifanc drwy brofiad treftadaeth ‘ymarferol’. Cafodd y prosiect ei lansio ar ddydd Sadwrn 13 Hydref yn Neuadd Gymunedol Maenclochog. Cafwyd sgwrs gan yr archaeolegydd Cymunedol, Delun Gibby,  ac roedd cyfle i weld arddangosfa o hen luniau o’r rhanbarth.

Sophie Jenkins, Project Officer said: “We will be using innovative approaches to get local people involved with celebrating their heritage and culture.  We hope this will help to create opportunities for development of cultural tourism to contribute to economic and social growth.”

The project will deliver an exciting three-year programme of activities celebrating and sharing heritage in the Preseli area, making it a stronger visitor destination based on its unique heritage and culture.

“We will be running Routes to Roots workshops designed to bring communities together to explore and identify their heritage assets and local stories.  There will be training opportunities, community heritage exhibitions, walks and talks, as well as community based discussions about Preseli area’s heritage and culture.  All of this will help us to explore and agree a collective approach to how heritage is used and valued and will help to strengthen the profile of the Preseli area as a destination for heritage tourism.”

Dywedodd Sophie Jenkins, Swyddog Prosiect: “Byddwn yn defnyddio dulliau arloesol o weithio i gynnwys y bobl leol mewn dathlu eu diwylliant a’u treftadaeth. Rydym yn gobeithio y bydd hyn yn creu cyfleoedd ar gyfer datblygu twristiaeth ddiwylliannol gan gyfrannu at dwf economaidd a chymdeithasol.”

Bydd y prosiect yn darparu rhaglen gyffrous o weithgareddau dros dair blynedd yn dathlu a rhannu treftadaeth yn ardal y Preseli, gan ei wneud yn lleoliad cryfach ar gyfer ymwelwyr wedi seilio ar ei dreftadaeth a’i ddiwylliant unigryw.

“Byddwn yn cynnal gweithdai Taith at ein Gwreiddiau sydd wedi eu dylunio i ddod â chymunedau ynghyd i archwilio ac adnabod eu hasedau treftadaeth a’u hanesion lleol. Bydd cyfleoedd hyfforddiant ar gael, arddangosfeydd treftadaeth gymunedol, teithiau cerdded a sgyrsiau, yn ogystal â thrafodaethau wedi eu seilio ar y gymuned am dreftadaeth a diwylliant ardal y Preseli. Bydd hyn oll yn ein cynorthwyo ni i archwilio a chytuno ar ddull gweithredu o ran sut mae treftadaeth yn cael ei ddefnyddio a’i werthfawrogi a sut y bydd yn cyfrannu tuag at gryfhau proffil ardal y Preseli fel ardal twristiaeth treftadaeth.”

As part of the project PLANED is also working with Span Arts to create a beautiful interactive quilt exploring farming, life on the land and personal connections to the Preseli landscape. The Stitching Stories workshops are fully bilingual and you don’t need any previous experience to get involved.
